Watson - The Man with the Alien Hand
For a show still trying to figure out what exactly it is, "The Man with the Alien Hand" is an interesting episode that opens the door, should the writers choose, to offer episodes more about mystery and detection outside of medical diagnoses. The episode starts much like any other with a patient with an unusual condition involving not having control of one of his hands. While helping him, Watson (Morris Chestnut) and the team also give their patient some credibility when he uses his condition to murder his brother and claim a higher percentage of his inheritance. While there still are medical aspects to the case, "The Man with the Alien Hand" becomes more about proving a criminal's guilt than solving the patient's condition.
It is notable that, although Watson later rectifies the situation, he is beaten again by a smarter criminal just as he was by Irene Adler (Whoopie Van Raam). The episode introduces Rachel Hayward as Lestrade, a Pittsburgh detective who takes a shine to Watson over the course of the episode in what feels the first of many appearances for a new recurring character. In other stories, Moriarty (Randall Park) continues to ask more of Shinwell (Ritchie Coster) while also toying with Ingrid (Eve Harlow) whose fear peaks enough to come clean to Sasha (Inga Schlingmann) and ask for help. Now we just have to wait for those facts to get back to Watson, allowing him to start putting the pieces of a larger mystery together.
