Usagi Yojimbo: Ten Thousand Plums #1

Starting a new five-issue story, having been joined by Gen, Miyamoto Usagi and Yukichi come across a huge field of the Shogun’s prized plum trees where they fined a burnt-out section of trees and come across some of the Shogun's guards who allude to mysterious happenings in the area and are immediately suspicious of the three travelers. The tension between the men and Usagi, whose name they recognize, is notable, although circumstances soon distract them from the trio.

Before we get our three travelers, the first several pages of Usagi Yojimbo: Ten Thousand Plums #1 are focused on a fox with sick daughter coming to the local village for help knowing the legend of the healing properties of the plums. Shunned, and her please ignored, the fox leaves the town unable to retrieve the life-saving medicine. The flashback likely points to the cause of the region's troubles although we'll have to wait and see just what occurred and the consequences of the town's action denying aid.
