Girl Slaves of Morgana Le Fay

1971's exploitative fantasy Girl Slaves of Morgana Le Fay leads young French beauty Françoise (Mireille Saunin) to the island of Avalon filled with beautiful, and often scantily clad, women and run by the sorceress Morgane le Fay (Dominique Delpierre). In search of her missing friend Anna (Michèle Perello), who disappeared during the night after making love in an abandoned barn, Françoise is confused by the fantastic surroundings, although she begins to become dimly aware of the dangers they hide.

While Morgane attempt to seduce Françoise in the castle, in the dungeon her immortal crones break the will of the captive Anna and convince her to give up her soul and join them rather than live life as an old hag in the castle's dungeon. Eventually, Françoise accepts the advice and help of Mograne's manservant (Alfred Baillou) and seduces one of Morgane's entourage (Régine Motte) to earn her freedom only to discover the world outside of sorceress' realm is far less interesting, and far more dreary, than the one she's just escaped from.

Definitely a movie of its time, and genre, the film has garnered a bit of a cult status over the years earning this new 4K release. The actresses are more notable for their appearance (and their willingness to engage in softcore exploitative scenes) than acting, but despite a meager budget the film finds ways to keep the story moving along (even if at times that's little more than longing looks, better than expected cinematography and sets, or simple titillation). Much of the film was shot on location making  use of the castle Château de Val and the surrounding land, with the dungeon and catacombs of the castle (arguably the impressive sets of the entire film) shot in Paris.
