Daredevil: Born Again - Optics
As Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) begins his reign as Mayor of New York City, Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) takes on a case involving a good Samaritan attempting to help a man in the subway who ends up being charged with the death of a one of the attackers (who turns out to be a cop). Despite the objections of Kirsten (Nikki M. James), Matt takes the case sure of the man's innocence. The discovery that Hector (Kamar de los Reyes) is also a street vigilante, known as the White Tiger, now outlawed by Fisk's new administration, only makes the case hit closer to home.
Going a bit above and beyond to find the witness who would clear Hector, puts Murdock directly in the path of the dirty cops and leads to a confrontation forcing Matt to let out devil to save his own life. The episode ends with a bloody Matt standing over the bodies of the two officers (who may be unconscious or dead). After taking what may be a losing case in court, against the united NYPD, the lawyer may have walked into something even more dangerous. Now, what is the path for Matt Murdock? And, is it finally time to see Daredevil once more?
The episode turns on the events in those final scenes involving Matt Murdock walking into a situation with eyes wide open, so to speak, that ends badly and could force a major change. Other aspects of the case include Matt having another date with Heather Glenn (Margarita Levieva) who also gets a new pair of patients in the Kingpin and his wife Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer). It's unclear whether Fisk genuinely wants Heather's help or if it's all a facade to give him a lever to pull with Matt if needed. Also BB Urich (Genneya Walton) gets an interview with the new mayor and Fisk blackmails Commissioner Gallo (Michael Gaston) to remain at his post despite the man's disdain for the Kingpin and everything he stands for.
