The White Lotus - Same Spirits, New Forms
Mike White's HBO anthology returns for a Third Season relocated events in the exclusive White Lotus resort chain's Thailand location. After opening the episode with a tease of things to come at the end of one week, "Same Spirits, New Forms" focuses on the arrival of the spoiled guests to the resort. Social satire mixed with psychological drama, one thing I say for the premiere, White has me rooting for the death of nearly every member of this group as soon as possible.
The guests for the season include the dickish Rick Hatchett (Walton Goggins) and his girlfriend Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood), the insufferable Ratliff clan (Jason Isaacs, Parker Posey, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Sarah Catherine Hook, and Sam Nivola), and actress Jaclyn Lemon (Michelle Monaghan) and her childhood best friends Kate (Leslie Bibb) and Laurie (Carrie Coon). We also meet Belinda (Natasha Rothwell), manager from the White Lotus resort in Hawaii on loan in a work-exchange program (and the only character introduced so far I wouldn't be ecstatic to see die a gruesome death as soon as next week). With so many characters, and a new hotel, the focus shifts quite a bit around the various characters teasing the dark secrets while also introducing a couple of key hotel staff (Christian Friedel, Lalisa Manobal, and Lek Patravadi) and a local (Charlotte Le Bon) who Chelsea meets at the poolside bar.
