Matlock - Friends

Throughout the season, CBS' Matlock reboot has played with the idea of Madeline (Kathy Bates) has grown to care for the colleagues she's working with while secretly spying on them for information related to the death of her daughter. Driven to find the truth, we've even seen Maddy close out an episode on the line "we're not friends." However, "Friends" showcases how things have changed and how the mock Matlock has come to trust and value Olympia (Skye P. Marshall) as a friend playing into growing friction with Edwin (Sam Anderson) over her priorities which is only further exacerbated over their disagreement on how to handle the bullying of their grandson.

The case of the week is one of the standard "the client always lies" cases. Although not guilty of what she's charged with, the defendant keeps key pieces of evidence out of the defense's hands putting them in a tough situation until the company framing her goes one step too far and opens up a new avenue to exploit. Memorable moments of the episode include Billie (David Del Rio) and Sarah's (Leah Lewis) undercover moment, Maddy and Olivia working a witness in a bar and celebrating afterwards, and Maddy getting the chance to best Shae (Yael Grobglas) and once again keep her true purpose at the firm concealed (which also leads to the discovery of Shae's involvement in the case Maddy has been looking int0).
