Will Trent - I'm a Guest Here
Months after the end of Season Two, the retiring , who has relocated to Tennessee taking odd private investigator jobs, Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez) is pulled back into the department to help investigate the shooting of a cop whose prime suspect demands Trent's involvement in the case. There's a lot of Trent struggling to fit into his old life while yearning to return to his new one here, getting the cold shoulder from the friends he disappeared on and the cops who blame him for Angie (Erika Christensen). Even Nico (Cora Lu Tran) is less than inviting.
Other threads from last season are picked up on as well with Angie now working security for an upscale private neighborhood and Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin) in the middle of a contentious divorce which isn't likely to be helped by his kids being at a party where two cops were shot. Angie, it seems has avoid prison, and we're even teased with the possibility that she might be able return to something more substantial than driving a golf cart and dealing with squabbling yuppies (which is certainly more positive than the note Season Two ended on).
As for the case, it involves an old friend of Will's. Fans of the show know this means a complicated relationship as the pair brawl in his living room with SWAT outside before Will getting down to talking about the case. The man's suddenly copping to the crime smells fishy to Will and further investigation. This leads to the introduction of Gina Rodriguez as a prosecuting attorney who it seems may stick around for more than just a single episode, the suggestion of corruption within the department, and the discovery of what motivation was used to frighten Will's friend into admitting guilt for a crime he did not commit. Welcome back, Will Trent.
