Arcane - The Message Hidden Within the Pattern
Is Jayce (Kevin Alejandro) now officially the worst guy ever? There's a moment near the end of "The Message Hidden Within the Pattern" where Jinx (Ella Purnell) and Vi (Hailee Steinfeld) have come together, Vander has been cured by Viktor, the plans of Ambessa (Ellen Thomas) have been stymied, even Caitlyn (Katie Leung) has seen the error of her ways, and all is right with the world. I feel as if I skipped several episodes of this series which would help explain Jayce's now murderous obsession with destroying Hextech which I don't believe has been adequately explained on-screen. That said, enter Jayce to destroy everything ending perhaps the show's best episode on one hell of a sad note.
The episode take place mostly in Viktor's sanctuary where Vander is saved, and a family is truly reunited, right up until the point Jayce murders his closest friend apparently murdering all of Vicktor's saved apostles and driving Vander mad once more. The end is even worse for Jinx as the ensuing chaos, Isha (Lucy Lowe) makes a deliberate sacrifice to save Vander from the soldier and protect Jinx ending the episode, and this act of the season, in despair and grief. It appears any chance for happiness for these characters has been lost. Whatever comes next isn't likely to be good for anyone.
