Of all the Disney+ series created for the MCU, Hawkeye is easily my favorite. Casting two likable stars and throwing them together in an odd couple pairing at Christmas with an entire city's underworld after them provides humor, action, thrills, and tons of fun especially once it also begins to mix in Yelena (Florence Pugh) as well.
Taking place after Infinity War, Clint Barton's (Jeremy Renner) trip to New York City with his kids gets sidetracked accidentally by Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld) whose snooping into the activities of her mother's (Vera Farmiga) odd boyfriend (Tony Dalton) leading her to an underground auction of illegal super-weapons and donning the costume of Ronin to prevent a heist and stay alive. However, once Ronin hits the streets old scores are incurred and Kate finds herself hunted across the city.
Thankfully, her hero Hawkeye comes to her aid... although he's less than thrilled with the situation and will need quite a bit of convincing before the two manage the partnership Kate, who is also a trained archer, desperately wants. Before the end, Kate will get her wish but also have to face hard truths about her family and square off against an army led by the Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio).
The series has a number of great moments, both big and small, throughout the six episodes with even the introductory episode (while doing quite a bit of heavy lifting in introducing Kate and setting up the dominos to fall over the next few episode) gives us Kate's college archery prank, Clint struggling through an Avengers musical, and the first meeting between Kate and Clint. We also get the episode in which Clint is forced to go LARPing, our heroes being captured by the Tracksuit Mafia and the introduction of Echo (Alaqua Cox), the Christmas finale, and the Kate and Yelena back-and-forth which permeates the final three episodes of the season.
The 4K steelbook collection includes a pair of featurettes, deleted scenes, a gag reel, and some postcards. The only negative to the new, and so far only, home video release for the series is that it is only available in 4K and despite the hefty price does not include either standard Blu-ray discs, DVD discs, or even digital copies of the series leaving a wide gap for those hoping to own the series and, you know, be able to watch it.
