The opening episode of the latest Citadel spinoff takes place simultaneously in both 1992 where struggling actress Honey (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) is recruited by stuntman and spy Bunny (Varun Dhawan) for a job, and 2000 where Honey's past catches up to her putting her daughter Nadia (Kashvi Majmundar) in danger. Yes, that Nadia who we meet as a smart and well-trained kid needing to look after herself in time for her mother, or the father she's never met, to find her.
No doubt the remaining episodes of the season will fill in the eight-year gap while also continuing the story of Honey racing to get back to her daughter and an eventual reunion with Bunny. Citadel: Honey Bunny is more stylish than Citadel: Diana with also a bit more humor. In Honey, we see both the young woman down on her luck struggling to make ends meet who even on the first mission shows resolve and skill. In the 2000 we see her able to eventually get away from her kidnappers, but not before Nadia gets put in danger.
The idea of exploring Nadia's past, and what turned her into a soldier for Citadel, is interesting, although ultimately I do know yet if that helps or hinders how the events will need to unfold. Her mother using games to teach her daughter the skills to stay alive keeps her ahead of danger, although to get clear of it she'll likely need the help of at least one parent. The premiere also has fun with exploring the early 90s tech and fashion.
