Following the brutal beatdown at the hands of Soundwave, a broken Starscream is found by scavengers... in a H.I.S.S. Tank (are we finally getting the G.I. JOE/Transformers crossover?). While those events are used to set the story in motion, the primary story from Transformers #13 takes place years before on Cybertron giving us a look at Starscream before he ever became a Decepticon.
While taking us out of the current storyline, and giving us an almost unrecognizable version of the character who would later become Starscream, the issue examines the life of Ulchtar, the death of his friend Genvo in the Civil Wars of Cybertron, and the events that lead him to Megatron and the Decepticons. The issue also shows us the friendship between Genvo, Jetfire, and Starscream (which was later suggested in Transformers cartoon). While unexpected (and offering a very different version of Starscream than we've ever seen before) the comic may be of interest to fans.
