In an episode that features Bryce (Jason Sudeikis) and Hit-Monkey taking down a giant, who has grabbed the crazed Haruka (Ally Maki), by exploding from its head, "The Rope" provides some backstory for the mystical weapons such as the sword their friend is wielding along with a backstory for the Alderman and an introduction to the Assassins Cooperative who invite Monkey to join their cause. Quite a mix of exposition and action, "The Rope" also includes another deal between Bryce and the Devil which provides him with temporary use of a physical body on Earth (the cost of which will eventually come due).
Despite the amount of exposition and introductions necessary, "The Rope" proves to be a solid episode, even if it does feel like we're treading water until the teased return of Akiko. The Cooperative is an odd group of characters who provide an opportunity of allies for our protagonists in a battle with the Alderman, and provide an alternative to Monkey's murderous path, although Bryce's new found lease of life may put that on hold. Sooner or later he'll need to pay up to the Devil, perhaps betraying Monkey even further?, and I somehow doubt the temporary body is going to help him put things right with his daughter.
