A new Flash Gordon adventure begins with our hero awakening on a prison planet known as Planet Death. It's been a bit, and a few publishers, since I picked up a Flash Gordon comic so I was unsure what to expect from this first issue. It gives us a grizzled Flash who the universe believes is dead, but manages to fight his way out when given the proper incentive from a new prisoner who mentions Dale Arden is in danger. By the end of the issue Flash looks a bit more like the hero of the title, but the rest is still a bit confusing.
The events which led Flash to be imprisoned, Dale Arden to become an Empress of the Universe (and not try to free him), and an alliance of worlds working together are all hastily introduced without much of it being explained. There's enough action-wise to keep my interest, but I don't know that the tease we get is enough story-wise to make me come back for a second issue.
