A deviation from the setup these black and white comics have come to follow, Darth Maul: Black, White, and Red #1 is not an anthology series featuring a number of short stories from different creative teams but a single standalone story featuring everyone's favorite character from The Phantom Menace. The look of the comic is also less stark than many of those that have come before, but still, as suggested, highlights the colors black, white, and especially red.
Set before the events of the first prequel, Darth Sidious sends his apprentice to investigate the Empire losing communication with a transport hauling members of the chaotic cult known as the Final Occultation to a prison planet. Maul finds himself immediately attacked by Dark Force Magic on arriving onboard the ship filled with dead Imperials and a few left alive who have gone insane from fear and pain. To survive the nightmare visions, deadly warriors, and mental attacks he will need to rely on his training and hunt down each of the three leaders of the cult.
