The opening chapter of The Book of Boba Fett sets the stage for the season with two storylines. The first takes place in the present with Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) taking over the role as head of Jabba the Hutt's criminal empire on Tatooine. The other, taking place in flashbacks when Fett takes a dip in the Bacta tank, begins to fill in the gaps of what happened to the character between his apparent death in The Return of the Jedi and his reappearance last year on The Mandalorian. In the opening chapter of both these tales, things don't exactly go Fett's way. While having the same feel as The Mandalorian, it lacks a funny little co-star, and the dual storylines often trip over each other while trying to decide which is the main story The Book of Fett wishes to tell.
The flashbacks suggest more than show Fett's escape from the Sarlacc before being stripped of his armor by Jawas and taken prisoner by Tusken Raiders. At least so far, no timeline has been introduced making it hard to know how long Fett was inside the Sarlacc or how much time he's spent so far with the sand people. In the present, Fett and Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) discover resistance to some of the locals of the bounty hunter's new business venture leading to the pair being attacked by space ninjas on the streets of Mos Espa, most likely from the yet-unforeseen mayor who was unwilling to pay tribute to Fett. Only through the help of two Gamorian guards, who Fett spared, do the pair survive. Looks like Fett's new life as a crime lord (like that of a desert dweller in the flashbacks) is off to a rocky start.
