Stargirl wraps up its Second Season with everyone on deck for the final battle against Eclipso and the arrival of Sylvester Pemberton (Joel McHale) to Blue Valley as the older generation shows up not to take something away from Courtney (Brec Bassinger) but to offer help at her darkest hour and stick around to show Stargirl a few tricks with the staff next season. I'll be interested to see McHale in the role of mentor to Stargirl, and see how Sylvester and Pat (Luke Wilson) may clash as their old hero/sidekick dynamic is replaced by something new.
The finale offers extended fight sequences, and time for all the various regulars (and almost too many returning guest-stars) to get involved, but also leaves time at the end to pick up the pieces and set the stage for next season which could be more lighthearted and goofy given family's new neighbors and a theme of redemption for likely more than one character. The only real disappointment for me came in the episode's coda with the awkward CGI of Mr. Bones whose skull had actor Keith David's teeth inside it. Thankfully, Stargirl has a few months to improve the character's look.
