Rick and Morty kicks of it's Fifth Season with an episode that introduces Rick's (Justin Roiland) arch-nemesis and prevents Morty (Roiland), once again, from getting romantic with Jessica (Kari Wahlgren). Crash landing in the ocean after their latest adventure forces Rick to deal with Mr. Nimbus (Dan Harmon) who rules Atlantis and the Earth's oceans. Throwing a dinner party for his foe leads Rick to short-cuts including aging some wine on world where time moves differently causing no end of trouble for Morty when trying to retrieve the wine across decades while becoming the legendary scourge the other reality will come together to destroy.
The over-sexualized king of the seas makes for another bizarre character to the show's stable. The fact that Beth (Sarah Chalke) and Jerry (Chris Parnell) both want to have a three-way with the merman, not to mention Nimbus' disturbing power over police, only makes things that much fucked up (in true Rick and Morty style). It's also intriguing that Nimbus knew Rick's wife, and was friends with the scientist before a falling out years before. Could this open the door to the show finally exploring Beth's mother? As for Morty, his night with Jessica is ruined once again by Rick's world (and, if Jessica really is as altered by her experience as it seems, does this close the door on any change Morty may have had?). Oh, and he becomes a legendary nightmarish figure for an entire world by just trying to sneak some wine for the girl he's been crushing on for five seasons. Poor Morty.
