The first-half of Stargirl's Season One finale gives Barbara (Amy Smart) a close-up look at Courtney (Brec Bassinger) in action when Icicle (Neil Jackson) sends Sportsmaster (Neil Hopkins) and Tigress (Joy Osmanski) to murder the family as the heroes evacuate and hole-up in a cabin to plan their next move. There are some nice moments of parental pride not only in seeing Courtney kick some super-villain ass but seeing her daughter with her friends and the relationships she's built in their new home. Rick (Cameron Gellman) is finally able to crack his dad's journal, and Beth (Anjelika Washington) is able to find the ISA's manifesto, giving the new JSA a clue to the ISA's plans (which, aside from murdering 25 million people in the course of a half-hour, turns out to be not that awful).
The ISA are only minutes away from victory, but the show does offer up the example of Anaya (Hina Khan) to remind viewers why villains have trouble working as a group. The episode also finally lets Mike (Trae Romano) in on the family business as he steps in to save Pat (Luke Wilson) from Sportsmaster. With no more secrets, and no more time, the team assembles to break into the underground tunnels as the clock ticks down to Dragon King's (Nelson Lee) Cerebro-like machine beginning its mass mind control of middle America. Along with the big battle, there are still several threads left hanging including Justin's (Mark Ashworth) role with the team, the tease of that all important pen (which looks more like an Easter Egg the show might delve into in Season Two), and what happens to our heroes and the town (full of super-villains who know who they are) should they be successful in saving the day?
