Prodigal Son - The Professionals
Malcolm (Tom Payne) leads the team in investigating the death of Eve Blanchard (Molly Griggs) whose murder was framed to look like a suicide. The ensuing search for a hired killer leads to a scene FOX has been teasing for weeks with Malcolm appearing to stab a target in public in an attempt to flush out the would-be killer (Dagmara Dominczyk). While not the killer they are after, some sound advice and breadcrumbs will eventually lead Malcolm and the NYPD to the true killer just in time to save his father from a similar fate (and also offer the good doctor a bit more exercise than he's normally used to).
It takes far less time than I expected for the truth about Nicholas Endicott (Dermot Mulroney) to be revealed as Martin (Michael Sheen) explains what he knows about about the man to his family in hopes of dissuading them from further investigating the sociopath. "The Professionals" also includes several flashback scenes involving Endicott and Martin involving their deal which helped arrange such a cushy lifestyle for the good doctor behind bars - and a warning if Martin ever revealed what he knows about the man. Good to his word, Endicott frames Martin's son for murder before the episode comes to an end, leading to a big cliffhanger heading into next week's season finale, while also attempting to seduce Ainsley (Halston Sage) with power which could be used to make her career. With Malcolm framed, I'm guessing Endicott's long game on his sister or mother isn't going to work, but given the tease of who will be appearing in the season finale, I'm guessing, whatever the outcome, Malcolm is going to get some closure to the mystery which has haunted him his entire life.
