Shadowhunters - Hail and Farewell
"Hail and Farewell" sets up next week's season finale and a confrontation between Clary (Katherine McNamara) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) and Valentine (Alan Van Sprang). Before that happens, however, the Shadowhunters will square off against Jonathan (Will Tudor) and the truce between the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders will crumble as the vampires, mages, and werewolves choose to stand with the Seelie Queen (recast as Sarah Hyland, suggesting a much larger role for the character next season) and her plan to go after Valentine themselves rather than continue to rely on the Shadowhunters.
Trapped in the city and unable to lead thanks to the magic of Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) and his friends, Valentine is forced to abandon his son and consider a new tactic in order to reach his final destination. In an episode which is all about shaking up the status quo, the villain's proposition to the Seelie Queen suggests that the Shadowhunters connection to the Downworlders may be even more tenuous than they believe. The reignition of Clary and Jace's desire for each other is much easier to see coming, as is the possibility of the show putting yet more obstacles in their path before it allows them to be together.
