When Walter (Elyes Gabel) gets trapped on a malfunctioning rocket and shot into low orbit it falls on the other Scorpion members to bring him home. Even after reestablishing contact with their boss, the assignment is further complicated by Walter's limited oxygen supply and the fact that he has already begun to hallucinate. With Paige (Katharine McPhee) saying whatever is necessary to keep him focused, the other geniuses are forced to work without the help of their best resource.
Playing out in the usual fashion, "It Isn't the Fall That Kills You" features a large threat and forces the geniuses to constantly update their plans when new problems arise. The inability of Walter to help allows the other team members to stand-up (in increasingly ridiculous ways such as one of them attempting a near impossible parachute save). In the end Walter is brought home, still fuzzy about events of his space travel, and just how much of his true feelings he admitted to Paige (who he hallucinated was on the rocket with him).
