Legends of Tomorrow - Legendary
Following his inability to save the lives of his wife and son, the crippling of the Time Masters' ability to view and control history, and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) sacrificing his life for the team's freedom, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) decides to abandon his compatriots back in 2016. Finding it hard to readjust to their old lives, and unable to leave their job unfinished, the group brings Hunter back to 2016 (in a manner that isn't all that well explained) to convince the Time Master to let them help rescue Kendra (Ciara Renée) from 1944 France. Although Sara (Caity Lotz) is distraught over learning of Laurel's (Katie Cassidy) death and Jackson (Franz Drameh) is distracted by Firestorm's first successful attempt at molecular rearrangement, Martin Stein (Victor Garber) is able to successfully deduce Vandal Savage's plan to use the Thanagarian meteorites which granted his immortality as time bombs in three diferent eras to rest the timeline (somebody watched the Star Trek: The Next Generation finale). Sending the more murderous members of the team to kill Savage in all three time periods, the show's writers mercifully end Vandal Savage's plans of conquest once and for all. "Legendary" wraps-up the Savage storyline, says farewell to two members of the team, and sets up the show's Second Season with our motley crew as time cops rather than time mercenaries. The appearance of Hourman (Patrick J. Adams) in the episode's final scene suggests next season's time jumping won't be any easier on the team but may hold plenty of comic heroes making their way on-screen including the Justice Society of America. I'm glad to see the Vandal Savage storyline come to a definite end. I'm also pleased that the show's writers recognized the size of the group is a bit unwieldy, choosing to remove two more members from next season. The introduction of a member of the JSA certainly opens up some interesting possibilities (Spectre and Doctor Fate chief among them), but personally, after such a rocky freshman season, I'd have been more excited for Season Two had Rip's father shown up instead.
