Lucifer - Wingman
"Wingman" is comprised of two separate stories. The episode gets its name from the investigation into the theft of Lucifer's (Tom Ellis) wings, but a large portion of the episode is devoted to Detective Decker's (Lauren German) ongoing investigation into a dirty cop at death's door. With the help of both Decker and Amenadiel (D.B. Woodside), Lucifer eventually tracks down his wings to the owner of a shady black market who sells religious artifacts at private auctions. Meanwhile, working on something Lucifer said, Decker works alongside Dan (Kevin Alejandro) to make her first big break in the case that has made her a pariah within her own department.
Lucifer's search for the wings allows him to discover just how far Amenadiel will go to see his brother back in Hell where he belongs. Lucifer's public destruction of his wings is an intriguing scene as it forces Amenadiel to change tactics by turning his attention to Lucifer's relationship with Chloe Decker. As for the destruction of the wings, the show creates not one but two outs for the devil in the episode. First, are we sure Lucifer destroyed the real wings and not the fake pair which were up for auction (keeping the real ones tucked away for a rainy day)? And second, Maze's (Lesley-Ann Brandt) decision to keep a single feather from Lucifer's bonfire also suggests his actions may not have been as permanent as they appeared to be.
