Miscommunication proves to be an issue when solving the case of of a murdered former El Salvador police officer and current English as a Second Language student whose body was thrown into a tank of deadly snakes after his murder. By posing as a French-Canadian student Castle (Nathan Fillion) learns the victim was helping the other students in the class with various problems, one of which may have gotten him killed. Ryan (Seamus Dever) and Esposito (Jon Huertas) stumble into a Federal Investigation while Vikram (Sunkrish Bala) uncovers a judge (Grainger Hines) extorting immigrants revealing the motive for the murder.
"And Justice for All" brings up a couple of themes the show has let slide. The first is Castle's recurring writer's block (which eventually leads him onto the case). The second involves Castle's missing months when a taste of Korean food sparks a hazy memory which will likely lead the detective down a windy road over the remainder of the season. Although it doesn't go exactly as planned, in order to find their killer Castle enlists the help of Hayley (Toks Olagundoye) and his fellow classmates to temporarily separate the judge from his FBI tail and get a new lead on the case. The real killer, however, proves not to be the judge nor an old enemy of the victim, but someone much closer to home.
