High on horny librarian brains, Liv (Rose McIver) isn't the only one who makes potentially disastrous romantic choices in "Fifty Shades of Grey Matter." While investigating the murder of a poisoned librarian (and erotica novelist), Liv struggles to keep her passions in check - especially where Drake (Greg Finley) is concerned. Egged-on a bit by her over-sexed best friend, and riding her own high of how well her case to take down Mr. Boss is going, Peyton (Aly Michalka) gives into her own lust for her star witness only realzing far too late just who Blaine (David Anders) really is.
Flirting with the joy and freedom of recreational sex and giving into your passions, iZombie actually comes down very hard on both women for their choices. Babineaux (Malcolm Goodwin) and Bozzio (Jessica Harmon) finally connect John Doe to Blaine but are forced to kick the man loose thanks to Peyton's interference. Learning from the detective, and more awfulness from Liv later that night, just who she's put her trust into crushes Peyton and will likely have larger ramifications over the remainder of the show's Second Season. Liv's choice to sleep with Drake is more understandable but also fraught with potential landmines somewhere down the line.
In the episode's other storyline Major (Robert Buckley) gets a scare when he believes the police will be able to track the dog of one of his victims back to him. Although he's able to take steps to prevent that from happening his actions, and cover story, seem to pique the interest of his roommate. Will Ravi (Rahul Kohli) soon learn of Major's job as a zombie killer?
