Community - Queer Studies and Advanced Waxing
The Sixth Season of Community hits the trifecta with an episode featuring three storylines you could only expect to find at Greendale Community College. After the school board's plan of cancelling the gay pride parade backfires, Dean Pelton (Jim Rash) is offered a seat on the board as long as he promotes his homosexuality. Remarking that categorization only characterizes a fraction of his personality, Belton accepts the position leading to fun mock-up news and magazine articles complete with humorous soundtrack about the school's Gay Dean which is as inappropriate as it is entertaining.
Accepting the role of the new IT lady, Elroy (Keith David) attempts to fix the school's WiFi issues only to come into conflict with Abed (Danny Pudi) when the pair discover a bird has nested inside the panel that needs to be repaired. Eventually connecting with the first story, the fate of the young birds, and Abed's condemnation of the Dean bucking under pressure, forces the Dean to come clean about himself to the local press (which is inordinately interested in such a local story).
The third storyline, and my favorite of the three, involves Annie (Alison Brie) and Chang (Ken Jeong) trying out for the school's dramatic retelling of The Karate Kid. Chang is disappointed when Annie snags the title role as he's left with Mr. Myagi, and things don't get any easier as the director continually insults him in front of the rest of the cast during rehearsals eventually forcing Annie to stand up for her friend. The storyline has two fun twists, first with the director's admission about what he thinks of Annie's acting, and second with the performance itself which wows every member of the Save Greendale Committee.
