Once Upon a Time - Shattered Sight

Condensing the effects of the latest curse to hit Storybrooke into a single episode, "Shattered Sight" wraps up most of the Frozen storylines leaving next week's mid-season finale to say goodbye to the various characters and set up the new villains for the second-half of the show's Fourth Season. Offering both the audience and Emma (Jennifer Morrison) a look into her forgotten past with Ingrid (Elizabeth Mitchell) the episode continues to round out the character of the Snow Queen into more tragic figure than villain whose final sacrifice makes her return to the show (other than in flashbacks) unlikely.

With the exception of Emma, Elsa (Georgina Haig), and Anna (Elizabeth Lail), "Shattered Sight" takes the opportunity to showcase the darkest reflection of each of Storybrooke's inhabitants allowing Regina (Lana Parrilla) to reclaim her role of the Evil Queen (and remind us how much more interesting a character she is today than at the show's start). Even Snow White (Ginnifer Goodwin) and David (Josh Dallas) are at each other's throats until a cure can be found.

We'll have to wait and see if there is any lingering fallout from the latest curse, although the lack of personal resentment following its release suggests the show may be ready to move on. I'm going to be sad to see both Elsa and Anna leave town as they would make intriguing permanent additions to the town going forward. Lail steals several scenes over the course of the episode dealing with the anger from her fiance and the rest of the town, and Haig is well suited for the warm-hearted ice queen who will always put family first. The tease of the three new villains hitting town as soon as next week means there's no time off for the savior and her kin, and we still have yet to see Rumpelstiltskin's (Robert Carlyle) attempt to separate himself from the dagger and what such action may cause both the town and the outside world.
