Scorpion's latest assignment is personal to Cabe (Robert Patrick) who answers a distress call from his estranged ex-wife he hasn't spoken to in 15 years. Stumbling over some irregularities at her law firm, Rebecca's (Jessica Tuck) life is even greater danger once the team connects a high-powered PAC with the assassination of a local congressman. To keep the woman safe the team will have to break back into her firm, steal the proof, decrypt it, and stay one-step ahead of men hired to clean-up the situation and leave no witnesses.
"Rogue Element" offers the show an opportunity to probe into the past of Agent Cabe a bit more and help explain why his connection to Walter (Elyes Gabel) is so important given his own daughter's death and the slow disintegration of his marriage. The episode's B-story continues to deal with Walter's discomfort at Drew's (Brendan Hines) insertion into the lives of Paige (Katharine McPhee) and Ralph (Riley B. Smith) which appears to be becoming more permanent.
Although the episode ends yet again with one member of the team involved in a high-speed pursuit probably best left to others, "Rogue Element" works in continuing to flesh-out another of the show's supporting characters. The Drew subplot continues the slow boil and we do get another example of Toby (Eddie Kaye Thomas) struggling to deal with his feelings for the oblivious Happy (Jadyn Wong) as well.
