Told in flashbacks after the team's attempt to recover a stolen painting ends in disaster (or does it?), Walter (Elyes Gabel) and each member of Scorpion are forced to submit to individual psychological evaluations to determine their fitness to continue working for the FBI as consultants for Agent Gallo (Robert Patrick).
Over the course of the episode we learn where the team went wrong taking initiative breaking into a suspect's house during a charity fundraiser and searching for an illusive painting whose well-crafted duplicate Walter exposed in the museum early in the episode. The search for the creation of the forgery leads the team to a comic and cartoon publisher that sends Sylvester (Ari Stidham) over the moon with excitement. The episode's epilogue also reveals the team's screw-up (at least their final screw-up of the episode) may not have been a mistake after all.
Featuring an appearance by Linda Hunt as NCIS: Los Angeles' Henrietta Lange who assists the team in their failed attempt to recover the painting from the criminal's wine cellar, CBS continues to connect yet another of its current shows in one connected and shared universe. I have to wonder, could a trip to Hawaii be in the team's future?
The motives of Walter are brought up several times in the episode by both the psychologist (Shohreh Aghdashloo) and by Hetty as they guess correctly that the genius' actions at times during the job were motivated more by the "emotionless" genius' feelings for Paige (Katharine McPhee) than the actual recovery of the painting. Teased early in the show's run, I'm a bit surprised the subplot is already being explored but it will be interesting to see where it leads and how it effect's Walter's dynamic with Paige as well as his relationships with the rest of the team.
