With the season premiere returning Sheldon home and introducing a new career for Penny (Kaley Cuoco), "The Junior Professor Solution" deals with the leftover fallout from last season's finale and Penny's future in pharmaceutical sales. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) returns to the university still dead set against continuing his study of String Theory. Much to Sheldon's surprise, the university offers the scientist more money and a way to choose a new field of study but only if Sheldon agrees to become a junior professor and teach a class.
Being talked into the situation by his friends, Sheldon reluctantly agrees only to discover no one at the university wants Mr. Cooper for a teacher. Well... no one but Howard (Simon Helberg) who agrees to take the class only if Sheldon can put off his disdain for both Wolowitz in particular and engineers in general. Needless to say, it's easier said than done.
The week's B-story involves Amy (Mayim Bialik) enjoying a bump in her popularity when Penny and Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) have a fight over how prepared Penny is for her new job. Playing the two against each other, Amy's social calendar doubles until her friends finally make up. Although the back-up story runs out of juice too quickly (and includes some painful street lingo from Amy), Sheldon's disdain for Howard has returned (I guess the glow of being an astronaut has faded) providing some fun moments between the pair.
