The LEGO Movie

The LEGO Movie isn't the first animated feature to be developed after a toy line but it's hard to imagine someone doing one better. Centered around the misadventures of construction worker Emmet Brickowoski (Chris Pratt) and his new friends who take on the evil Lord Business (Will Ferrell), The LEGO Movie is a clever tale that not only delivers one of the most fun movies of the year but leaves the audience with a nice message for both children and their parents.

Filled with some amazing GCI effects crafting a world made entirely of LEGO Bricks which don't necessarily need 3D to be effective, the movie holds up to multiple viewings. In the true definition of a family film, Emmet's journey from lifeless drone to the most important character in all of LEGO creation is the kind of story which should play just as well for children and adults. For more on the movie check out my original review.

Available on DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray "Everything is Awesome Edition," extras include Ultraviolet digital copies of the film, Batman's (Will Arnett) music video of the song he sings Wildstyle (Elizabeth Banks), winning LEGO fan films, and an "Everything is Awesome" sing-a-long. Also included are shorts featuring Renaissance artist Michelangelo and Abraham Lincoln as "History Cops" and another inserting Ninjago characters into the movie as part of a ridiculous marketing campaign.

There are also several behind-the-scenes featurette on the making of the movie from Emitt's point of view for kids, feaurettes on the LEGO models and how to build variations of them with Senior LEGO Designer Michael Fuller, storyboards of the movie, outtakes, deleted scenes, various promotional spots featuring several of the main characters, the first animation test done for the movie, and audio commentary with writers/directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord, and stars Alison Brie, Chris Pratt, Will Arnett, and Charlie Day.

[Warner Home Video, DVD $28.98 / Blu-ray $35.99 / 3D Blu-ray $59.98]

  1. I am looking forward to this one and have been saving it for a rainy day. I loved the Lego Batman movie. It was the best Batman movie of them all so I have high hopes for this one.
