Investigating the murder of a young woman (Natalie Padilla) found in the middle of nowhere leads Jane (Simon Baker) and Lisbon (Robin Tunney) to an exclusive men's club just outside the national forest where they learn the woman was working as a prostitute for some of the club's wealthy and influential members. Suspects in the crime include the club's owner and manager (Mark Harelik), the club's pimp (Jon Abrahams), and a married professional athlete (James Ryen) who had an appointment with the escort the night she was murdered.
The number of influential members of the club, who are now murder suspects, brings Abbot (Rockmond Dunbar) into the field where he is immediately put to work by Jane to take down a dirty white collar embezzler (Sonny Marinelli) and to use the entire situation as one piece of his plan, which also includes the Mentalist stepping on the club's stage for in impromptu magic show, to catch the killer.
The murder of the week is well-handled, if not that memorable. More entertaining is the show continuing the season's trend of Jane getting his new FBI teammates involves in his stunts and schemes as Abbot's involvement works quite well. We also get the continuation of Lisbon's relationship with Marcus Pike (Pedro Pascal) which takes a serious turn when he's offered a cushy promotion in Washington and, in the episode's closing scene, invites Lisbon to come with him.
