Scandal returns from mid-season hiatus with big changes. Jake (Scott Foley) is now in command of B-613 leaving a vengeful Rowan (Joe Morton) plotting revenge. After helping Sally Langston (Kate Burton) cover-up the murder of her husband (Jack Coleman) , a fact both James (Dan Bucatinsky) and David Rosen (Joshua Malina) have uncovered but can't prove, Cyrus (Jeff Perry) is incensed to witness Sally publicly announce her candidacy for President while refusing to resign as the Vice President of the United States.
Re-assuming her former role as Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) campaign manager, Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is forced to deal with the return of the Presidential mistress rumors and gossip she successfully put down months ago. In the form of both a blessing and a curse, Mellie (Bellamy Young) comes up with a smart play to begin to defuse the situation and move the campaign's focus back to derailing Langston's candidacy (which gets a new supporter in Rowan looking to tear down Fitz and possibly do far much worse after being kidnapped, interrogated, and fired by the married "boy" sleeping with his daughter). Olivia vets Fitz's new VP candidate (Jon Tenney) who has a past tied strongly to both Fitz and Mellie. And we finally get our first look at Harrison (Columbus Short) boogeyman who is not what you expect (Nazanin Boniadi).
With Olivia firmly re-entrenched in the White House, Quinn (Katie Lowes) future still very much up in the air, Rowan's revenge, White House bed-swapping, and the importance of the re-election campaign and James and David's investigation into the cover-up of Langston's murder, it will be interesting to see what becomes of Pope & Associates moving forward in terms of both the weekly clients and various relationships and interactions (which I usually enjoy more than the Olivia/Fitz/White House craziness).
