Glee - Frenemies

Friends become enemies as Sue (Jane Lynch) pits Jake (Jacob Artist) and Tina (Jenna Ushkowitz) against each other for class valedictorian and in New York Santana (Naya Rivera) puts her relationship with Rachel (Lea Michele) in jeopardy becoming her understudy for Funny Girl (because she's the same age, and not in any way the same type, of the girl the producers chose despite thinking she was too young for the role?), and then taking credit for all of Rachel's success. Meanwhile Kurt (Chris Colfer) frets over Starchild's (Adam Lambert) influence over the band and New Directions settles on solos for Nationals.

Although necessary to revert Santana back to form (mean and bitchy but crueler with words than her actions), and the publicity of casting high school friends from in Ohio as the lead and understudy of a Broadway show make some sense, the oddity of choosing Santana as an understudy (versus the many others who actually tried, and almost beat, out Rachel for the role in auditions) doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense. Nor does the resolution of Tina and Artie's competition as neither ends up wearing the crown in favor of a character who already gets plenty of spotlight without being named valedictorian.

Musical performances include Santana singing "Don't Rain on My Parade," Artie and Tina fight for the right to solo with a performance of En Vogue's "My Lovin' (You're Never Gonna Get It)," Santana and Rachel perform The Police's "Every Breath You Take," Starchild and Kurt perform a Duet of The Darkness' "I Believe in a Thing Called Love," Rachel and Santana perform Sara Bareilles' "Brave," and Artie, Tina, and Blaine perform Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway."
