Hawaii Five-0 - Hana Lokomaika'i

Hawaii Five-0 dips back into one of its most reliable plotlines as Internal Affairs once again begins investigating Chin Ho Kelly (Daniel Dae Kim). This time Chin gets in trouble as Five-0 finally catches up to the man (Christopher Sean) responsible for killing his father 15 years ago. Taking place mostly in flashbacks caused by Chin's testimony, the episode also brings back both William Sadler and Reiko Aylesworth.

Authorities jumping to the wrong conclusions about Chin-Ho's methods and motives is well-tread ground over the show's four seasons. By the end of the events it's obvious some of the young officer's decision making may have been flawed but there's no evidence of any actual wrongdoing to anyone with half a brain (which I guess rules out the two detectives with no real interest in the truth). Despite the slow reveal of events there's never any real suspicion of wrongdoing on Chin-Ho's part leaving the episode desperately missing the critical tension it needs to re-explore whether or not Chin-Ho is a good cop.

Although Kono (Grace Park) is back, and forced to give her own testimony on the case alongside McGarrett (Alex O’Loughlin), it's hardly all hands on deck as neither Danny (Scott Caan) nor Catherine (Michelle Borth), nor any of the show's various supporting cast of regular guest-stars, make an appearance. "Hana Lokomaika'i" isn't a bad episode, but given the ground around Chin's troubled history as a cop has been so well mined already, it does feel a bit tired to go back to the well one more time (especially as the show ends under the assumption the investigation is far from over).
