With his sister about to give birth to his nephew, Sheldon (Jim Parsons) heads home to Texas leaving the rest of the gang, including Stuart (Kevin Sussman), to spend the night together for a Christmas tree trimming party which leads to each fantasizing about their lives if none of them had ever met Sheldon.
Although none are very long, there are several fun fantasy sequences that play on various themes of the show including bringing back Zack (Brian Smith) for Leonard (Johnny Galecki) version of events. Of all the various fantasies, Amy's (Mayim Bialik) idea of a lonely Penny (Kaley Cuoco) coming on to the scientist across the hall is the most ridiculous (and a cheap excuse to get the show's lead actress out of her clothes). The depictions of both Fat Raj and Fat Leonard are also funny.
Jumping from one fantasy sequence to another "The Cooper Extraction" allows the holiday-themed episode to have some fun with each of the characters while also underlining the importance of the annoying, but necessary, Sheldon in each of their lives.
