Almost Human - Blood Brothers

After the first of two eye-witnesses (Annie Monroe) able to put smug murderer Ethan Avery (Alex Miller) behind bars is killed Captain Maldonado (Lili Taylor) assigns Kennex (Karl Urban) and Dorian (Michael Ealy) to solve the case and protect the remaining witness, a self-professed psychic (Megan Ferguson) who believes the defendant (who was in court at the time of the crime) was responsible for the murder. Even though the psychic's theory (which she got from the disembodied spirit of the dead witness) is impossible, it is later corroborated by Rudy (Mackenzie Crook) who matches the voice of the killer in the safe house to that of the murder suspect inside the courtroom.

After a group of clones of Avery try and kill Kennex, Dorian, and the witness, Kennex discovers how the clones have been staying one-step ahead by monitoring police frequencies. Detective Stahl (Minka Kelly) investigates the widow of the murderer's first victim (whose research was responsible for the man's army of clones). She not only finds the proof she was looking for but the clones themselves who arrange to trade Stahl for Avery.


Although Maldonado agrees to the trade, she does it her way which allows Kennex to retrieve Stahl and prevent Avery's escape. Dorian's actions not only stop the clones from escaping (flipping over their van) but also give their psychic witness a bit of closure for the loss of her own family years earlier. And, as expected, the crazy woman's vision of Kennex's future turns out be fairly accurate as the shows takes one step further to getting Kennex and Stahl together.

"Blood Brothers" manages to put a sci-fi spin on the twin murder storyline police procedural love to trot out every now and then, however it is odd that with so many versions of Ethan walking around the self-professed genius didn't think to position one of them was in public to give the man an ironclad alibi for the first murder. Dorian's matter-of-fact killing of the clones is glossed over and quickly ignored but it certainly raises troubling questions about his capabilities concerning the taking of a human life I would hope to see the show explore in the future.
