Pretty Little Liars - The Mirror Has Three Faces

All roads lead to Cece Drake (Vanessa Ray) in the latest episode of Pretty Little Liars. Against her better judgement, and at the prompting of both Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario) to use the unique opportunity to do a little snooping, the temporarily homeless Emily (Shay Mitchell) accepts an invitation from Mrs. DiLaurentis (Andrea Parker) to stay in Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) room. Bonding over their mutual love for Ali, Emily makes a pair of discoveries including  learning more about her friend's troubled relationship to Cece Drake and the fact that someone has been secretly living in the DiLaurentis basement during the time the house was empty.

Aria (Lucy Hale) travels to Philadelphia to watch Jake (Ryan Guzman) in a marital arts competition and use the trip to look into the mysterious Philly address which she discovers is indeed tied to Cece Drake. Speaking to the recently evicted woman who had been subletting Cece's apartment, Aria also learns that Cece's hatred of Ali and the Liars began the night of the sorority party.  Spencer and Toby (Keegan Allen) continue following breadcrumbs from A leading the pair back to Dr. Palmer (Nick Tate) and helping expose Alison's toxic relationship with Cece Drake. Either Cece is the show's attempt at one monster of a red herring, or the Liars have found their nemesis (and a this point either possibilities seem equally likely).

Wren (Julian Morris) begins treating Mona (Janel Parrish) at Radley, and while acting concerned about his patient to Mrs. Hastings (Lesley Fera) the young man uses his influence to throw a wrench into the murder defense of Hanna's mother (Laura Leighton) who may now need a new lawyer. Ezra (Ian Harding) also gets a surprise of his own when he confronts Maggie (Larisa Oleynik) after, in the process of fighting for joint custody, learning that Malcolm isn't his biological son. The Ezra story seems a little shoehorned in, but I expect his troubles would lead into an Ezra/Aria/Jake triangle which we could see develop over the second-half of the season.

Heading into next week's mid-season finale, all arrows seem to point to Cece Drake being the cause of the Liars' troubles. Despite not wanting to stay in Ali's room, the experience does end up helping her friend's mother who admits to Emily that the Liars aren't the only ones who have had an Ali sighting since the girl's death. Although the trial drama is pushed to the background in this episode, Wren's actions (for Cece? A? or someone else?), as well as the questioning of Mona's true motives and plans if she would ever take the stand, lead to some potentially serious problems for Hanna's mother down the line.
