Learning of Michael (Jeffrey Donovan) and Sonia's (Alona Tal) new mission in Mexico with James (John Pyper-Ferguson), Agent Strong (Jack Coleman) plans an armed extraction in broad daylight to grab the evil mastermind using freelance mercenaries, but (as with nearly every aspect of Michael's undercover mission) things don't go quite according to plan especially once Michael discovers that Strong has hired Simon (Garret Dillahunt) as the leader of the team charged with bringing James in. With Sam (Bruce Campbell) and Jesse (Coby Bell) assisting Strong's team, it falls on Fiona (Gabrielle Anwar) to stay behind and protect Maddie (Sharon Gless) if things go wrong and James discovers Michael has betrayed him.
Michael and Simon's temporary partnership falls apart in under 10 minutes, and well before James and Sonia arrive. By the time Strong and his friends show up to grab the bad guys Michael has already killed Simon and his once rock-solid loyalties are no longer so clear. Circumstances are further complicated when Michael helps Sonia and James escape the CIA net and then confesses all to stop James from killing Sonia who he believes is the one who set them up.
The choice of Simon to push an already conflicted Michael over-the-edge was inspired and unexpected. And given what they shared, even if much of it was a lie, there was no way Michael could allow Sonia to pay with her life for his betrayals. However, now that James finally knows the true story is there any side safe for Michael and his friends and family as the show continues to countdown to its series finale?
