Continuum - Second Skin

When Alec (Erik Knudsen) notices interference on his system, the same kind of interference he saw when Kiera (Rachel Nichols) first arrived, he believes another time traveler has shown-up from the future. The truth is a little more complicated and has to deal with Kiera's old partner Elena (Caitlin Cromwell) who arrived in 1975 and by the year 2013 is an old woman (Karin Konoval) suffering from Alzheimers and liver failure whose son (Christian Vincent) recently sold her old space-age cop suit at a garage sale to the girlfriend (Carrie Fleming) of a dry-cleaners manager (Patrick Gilmore) for a sci-fi themed wedding.

Travis (Roger R. Cross) and Garza's (Luvia Petersen) faction of Liber8 begin targeting and destroying oil tanker trucks and robbing gas stations while endearing some to the terrorists' agenda of taking on big oil. During one of the robberies, Travis gets a glimpse of Rex in the future suit and Lucas (Omari Newton) and Sonya (Lexa Doig) begin tracking it as well through the signal the now active suit is putting out. To find the suit and keep Agent Gardiner (Nicholas Lea) busy, Kiera calls on the help of her old partner one more time, but unfortunately for Kiera both factions of Liber8 find Rex before she does. Thankfully for out future cop the two factions battle each other long enough for her to arrive and save both the suit and Rex's life.

The episode ends with Kiera recovering the suit but unable to say goodbye to her old friend who passes away in the night providing the episode with a touching final scene between Kiera and Carlos (Victor Webster). Gardiner's reaction to not finding the suit in the hospital only angers him further which will no doubt increase the tension between Kiera and the federal agent who wants real answers as to who Kiera is and what her agenda she is secretly pursuing. The episode works well with Kiera reconnecting unexpectedly with an old friend from the future only to have yet another piece of her past, and Alec's future, be painfully ripped away from her. The episode doesn't have enough time to fully develop Rex's story, but the reaction of both he and his girlfriend to the suit feel real as well.
