In the Fourth Season finale Ellen’s (Judith Ivey) box of secrets is up for grabs. Having been told by Senator Pratt (Titus Welliver) the evidence implicates James (Treat Williams) and not the Senator, and realizing Peter (Tim DeKay) and Neal (Matt Bomer) have traced its location to the Empire State Building, Agent Callaway (Emily Procter) makes a deal with Peter to deliver the box to the FBI and let the chips fall where they may. However, after an unexpected meeting with his former boss (James Rebhorn) Peter is unsure who to trust.
Calling in James and Mozzie (Willie Garson) for an early appointment at Neal's apartment, which unexpectedly includes Sara (Hilarie Burton) who spent the night, Peter briefs the team on Callaway's plan which includes both Diana (Marsha Thomason) and Jones (Sharif Atkins) to sweep the Empire State building that morning, giving the group only two hours to come up with a plan and get the box before Callaway's men find it.
Mozzie and James sneak their way inside but run into a snag as Pratt has bought out the floor the team had planned to use. Neal calls on the help of both Sara and June (Diahann Carroll), along with a little of his trademark ingenuity, to make his plan work, but he runs into his own problems after his father physically assaults one of Pratt's guards. The situation isn't improved when James makes an even deadlier decision before the show's end.
With Neal free of his anklet and Peter detained, Mozzie is able to obtain the box (and swap it without James' knowledge) allowing Neal to safely get the evidence out of the building. Peter's half of the plan doesn't go quite so well when he's found over the dead body of the Senator with a smoking gun. As the episode comes to a close White Collar delivers yet another cliffhanger as the only one who can save Peter is the the man who actually shot Pratt in self-defense, but despite his son's pleading James has no intention of turning himself over to the FBI no matter what consequences may result.
