Marty's younger brother Malcolm (Larenz Tate) returns after three years for an awkward family dinner with Marty (Don Cheadle), Roscoe (Donis Leonard Jr.), and Jeremiah (Glynn Turman), and to be in all-around pain in Marty's ass. For their day jobs at Galweather, Jeannie (Kristen Bell) and Doug (Josh Lawson) travel to San Diego to pitch a dating website while Marty and Clyde (Ben Schwartz) fly to Chicago to sit down with an executive (Michael McDonald) with U.S. National Bank over the company's latest kerfuffle.
Feeling insecure about not being asked to go on the A-trip with Marty, Jeannie allows Doug to convince her to set up dates for each of them using the dating site while they are in San Diego. While Doug hits the jackpot, Jeannie's date with a kindergarten teacher and Kung Fu lover (Ryan Devlin) starts out well but crashes and burns due to a little too much honesty on her part.
Although the exec turns out to a near hopeless case, Marty makes a connection with the man's second in command (Lisa Edelstein) who lets it slip that Galweather's new CEO (Bess Armstrong) tried to talk her out of hiring Marty in favor of one of Galweather's other associates. Returning home Marty takes a second shot to his ego when he learns his younger brother knows far more about his father's recent medical history than Marty does.
Although McDonald's character is far too over-the-top to take seriously, the mid-handjob revelation his assistant delivers to Marty should have serious repercussions over the remainder of the season. I'll admit it's also a nice change of pace to see Doug get the girl (Jenny Slate), who it appears will be sticking around for at least one more episode, while Jeannie's bitchy and brutal honesty gets her left at the bar.
