Covert Affairs - Scary Monsters (and Super Creeps)

The fallout from last week's botched drone bombing of a suspected terrorist continues as Arthur (Peter Gallagher) is ordered in front of a Senate Oversight Committee, Joan (Kari Matchett) orders Annie (Piper Perabo) to return to the Blue Bonnet facility to resume her complete Moscow debriefing, and Annie's asset (Michelle Nolden), who is now targeted for death by the man (Haaz Sleiman) the CIA failed to kill, has disappeared. As Auggie (Christopher Gorham) and Barber (Dylan Taylor), and a boatload of CIA agents, are called into help circle the wagons Annie is left a difficult choice to play it safe, keep her head down, and follow orders or head out without support to find the missing journalist. For our heroine it's no choice at all.

Despite being ordered to stay away from Eyal (Oded Fehr) and report for her delayed debriefing, Annie needs all the help she can get in tracking down her asset - even that of a man she's no longer sure he can trust. Joan believes Eyal is responsible for the doctored intelligence in the file that got Annie into this whole mess in the first place. As the pair work together Eyal opens up with his own history with Khalid (Sleiman) and the asset he loved and sent undercover only to see her turn up dead.

Presented with proof that Mossad doctored the intelligence it delivered to the CIA, Joan's opposite number (Tovah Feldshuh) reveals it was Eyal, seeking vengeance for his own vendetta against Khalid, and and not Mossad, who is responsible for the doctored intelligence. Abandoning the man she trusted on the side of the road, Annie runs full speed into danger and walks away from a treasured friendship. Meanwhile Auggie finds himself blindsided by an old friend about getting back in uniform one more time help out another soldier struggling after being injured in combat.

The episode ends with some serious soul searching for Joan, Arthur is blindsided by another betrayal by Henry Wilcox (Gregory Itzin), Eyal finds himself out in the cold and resigns his post in Mossad, and Annie's asset makes it back into the arms of her boyfriend delivering the name and description of the blonde CIA agent who tried to turn her against him. With things heating up for Annie it appears there's plenty of Khalid and Eyal's story left to explore in the season's remaining two episodes.
