Person of Interest - Masquerade

With Finch's (Michael Emerson) return to the library things get back to normal for Reese (Jim Caviezel) when The Machine delivers the latest number - the spoiled daughter (Paloma Guzmán) of a Brazilian diplomat (Gary Perez). Posing at Sofia's newest bodyguard, Reese's patience is put to the test by the willful party girl as Finch struggles to resume his routine and get used to Reese's new four-legged friend's invasion of his home.

In his new duties Reese meets the young woman's secret boyfriend (Nick Gehlfuss). He also discovers a connection between the staged suicide of a recent acquaintance of Sofia and an attempt on her life. Reese connects Sofia, her missing friend Gabbi (Taylor Gildersleeve), and the dead man to a single night at the young man's apartment and a member of the 14th Street Mafia who appears to be cleaning up loose ends. When Gabbi  turns up dead Reese recruits Detective Fusco (Kevin Chapman) to babysit Sofia at an embassy dinner as Reese tracks down the man who killed her, but by the time Reese uncovers the identity of the the gang banger's partner it may be already to late for Sofia.

In the episode's B-story Detective Carter (Taraji P. Henson) is surprised by the return of Agent Snow (Michael Kelly) who is also interested in Alice Corwin's (Elizabeth Marvel) death. It turns out Snow isn't looking into the case for his own curiosity. He's been blackmailed by Reese's old partner Cara (Annie Parisse) into discovering the identity of who sent them on their final suicide mission. With Corwin dead, and whatever information was hidden on her body in the hands of the people controlling The Machine, it looks like Snow will continue to look for answers or face Cara activating the bomb she's strapped to the man's chest.

The number of the week case is fine but far less interesting than the look at Finch's lingering symptoms following his captivity at the hands of Root (Amy Acker) and the reintroduction of Cara, who may inadvertently be searching for The Machine without realizing it. It will be interesting to see how long it takes for the former partners to cross paths once more.
