Glee - The Break-Up

Finn's (Cory Monteith) unexpected arrival in New York throws Rachel's (Lea Michele) world upside down  especially when he breaks the news that he was "semi-honorably discharged" from the Army after only 16 days in Boot Camp and has spent the last few months backpacking through Georgia. Rachel tries to help drag Finn out of his funk by helping him find a new dream in New York, but shadowing his former fiance around her glamorous new life only convinces Finn there is no place for him in it. Kurt (Chris Colfer) struggles balancing his new job at Vogue and trying to keep up his relationship with Blaine (Darren Criss) who shows up in New York for a quick visit two weeks early.

Finn's level of discomfort isn't helped by Rachel performing a duet with Brody (Dean Geyer) of Demi Lovato's "Give Your Heart a Break" at a favorite bar of NYADA students. On the way back from the bar two couples deal with the issues in the respective relationships with a performance of No Doubt's "Don't Speak." Although Kurt ignores Blaine's attempts at reconciliation after learning Blaine slept with someone else while they were apart, Finn and Rachel get one final goodbye leading to the cast's closing number - Coldplay's "The Scientist."

Meanwhile, back in Lima, Santana (Naya Rivera) returns on break from college and is concerned with Brittany's (Heather Morris) devotion to a new Left Behind club started by Kitty (Becca Tobin) that celebrates the Christian novels and the certainty of the coming Rapture. Finn and Blaine both return home from disappointing trips to the Big Apple where Mr. Shue (Matthew Morrison) has issues of his own when her learns Emma (Jayma Mays), while on board with his accepting a spot on the Blue Ribbon Panel to Improve Arts Education in Washington, D.C., has no plans to put her job on hold to go with him. The new kids get their own five-minutes as well as Jake (Jacob Artist) chooses his friendship with Marley (Melissa Benoist) over his relationship with Kitty.

Other music performances from this week involve Finn and Blaine's duet of Duncan Sheik's "Barely Breathing," Blaine perform's an acoustic version Katy Perry's "Teenage Dream," and Santana sings Taylor Swift's "Mine" as a way to say her own farewell to Brittany.
