Rookie Blue - Messy Houses

While answering a domestic disturbance call with Diaz (Travis Milne) Andy (Missy Peregrym) is surprised by both an upset 11 year-old boy who called the police to break up his parents' (Jonathan GoadKrista Bridges) argument when then pulls a gun to protect them as well as the unexpected reappearance of her estranged mother (Barbara Williams) who forces Andy to deal with years of unresolved issues.

While forced to work with her mother, who has returned to town to work with Child Services, Andy and the team have to track down the mother who takes her children and flees after the police release her into the custody of her sister. The stash of guns confiscated from the domestic disturbance turn out to be the same guns seized by Detective Barber (Noam Jenkins) five years ago that should have been destroyed but somehow managed to end up back on the street which puts him in a sticky situation with Internal Affairs.

The other storyline involves Epstein (Gregory Smith) returning to the job at the end of mandated time off following his shooting. On the first day back he and Shaw (Matt Gordon) draw an unusual case of the wife of a hoarder (Ian Downie) getting lost in her own house. Although once again the stories seem to fit a little too neatly together, Andy's turmoil over the return of her mother and trying to honor his father (Peter MacNeill) works well. There's also a nice heart-to-heart moment between Shaw and Epstein as Shaw comes clean about being kicked out of his house by his wife (a thread which will be touched on much more in next week's episode).
