Pantha, the newest title from Dynamite Comics, sadly has no connection to the DC character created by Marv Wolfman and Tom Grummett in the early 1990's. As ridiculous as that character was, it doesn't hold a candle to what Dynamite has decided to make into a monthly title.
This Pantha is the last living piece of the former Egyptian warrior goddess Sekhmet who attempts to redeem herself by saving those in need in the form of a scantily clad woman in a bikini, heels and thigh-high stockings who has the ability to transform herself into a panther.
Pantha's first adventure finds the goddess in New Mexico taking down a gang who have kidnapped illegal immigrants and are selling them to the highest bidder. One of the captives appears to be a reincarnated version of one of Sekhmet's followers (don't ask) who another goddess also has her eye on.
Pantha is ridiculous in the extreme, but I'm usually on-board for insane silliness, especially as too much of the 1990's grittiness has taken over comics the past year. The trouble is as silly as the entire plot is there's nothing fun about it. This is a comic about a scantily clad woman who turns into a panther and mauls bad guys... and it's incredibly dull. Stupid (oh, and it's got plenty of that, too) I might be able to forgive, but don't waste my time. Pass.
