Forced into mediation by Dean Pelton (Jim Rash), a unconcerned Jeff (Joel McHale) attempts to negotiate a peace between Troy (Donald Glover) and Abed (Danny Pudi) whose disagreement over pillow forts and blanket forts has grown into a campus wide war between Pillowtown and Blaketsburg.
The episode is presented as a documentary from footage shot by the Guinness World Records who were on-hand to document the largest blanket fort in history only to capture the far more interesting events surrounding the "largest and longest pillow fight in Community College history." Only at Greendale Community College.
The stark seriousness of the narration and framing of the story as something akin to the Civil War is a perfect compliment to the sheer ridiculousness of the actual proceedings. As Jeff flames to conflict to keep students out of classes, Britta (Gillian Jacobs) attempts, unsuccessfully, to document the carnage, Annie (Alison Brie) opens a safe haven for those injured in the fighting, and Pierce (Chevy Chase) and Shirley find themselves 2nd in command of the respective armies.
Chang (Ken Jeong) and his young deputies, branded the Changlorious Basterds, turn "the war into a chaotic sea of high thread count terror," forcing Abed to allow Pierce to release his ultimate weapon - Pillow Man. It's a little odd that Vice Dean Laybourne (John Goodman) doesn't make an appearance to look on gleefully at the chaos he has wrought, but that's really a minor complaint to one of the show's best episodes as Jeff helps the best friends find their way back to each other once the absurd war ends.
