When the Machine gives them the number of a six-month-old found baby Reese (Jim Caviezel) and Finch (Michael Emerson) find themselves in the role of overprotective parents for a young girl with a connection to a wealthy family with ties to an Eastern European criminal organization wanting to make sure the baby's parentage is never discovered.
When the baby is taken out of Finch's care Reese has no other choice but call on the one person he knows with ties and enough pull in the underworld to find the child before she's shipped out of the country and never seen again. Reese calls in an old debt with the one number given by the Machine he shouldn't have saved - Elias (Enrico Colantoni).
After retrieving the child Reese finds himself in a double cross and faced with an impossible choice to save the child's life he must betray Detective Carter's (Taraji P. Henson) trust by giving the would be crimelord the location of his father (Mark Margolis) thereby surely sentencing him to death.
Although the baby is saved and returned to her grandparents, Reese has had better days. As the episode comes to a close Reese finds his fragile partnership with Carter broken, perhaps beyond repair, and for not giving up the location of the mobster's location to HR Fusco (Kevin Chapman might face retaliation from the dirty cops Reese allowed to get their fingers on him again.
