With regionals fast approaching and the rivalry with the Worblers heating up (cultivating in an Michael-off in and underground parking garage as both groups perform "Bad") the reunited New Directions finds their muse in Michael Jackson.
The show opens with Blaine (Darren Criss) leading the group in "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'" before Finn (Cory Monteith) shows up for Rachel's (Lea Michele) answer to his surprising proposal as the rest of the group reminisces about their favorite Michael moments. The drama of Rachel's decision works well enough but it's all to easy to see how the episode will end with her immediately regretting her rushed answer.
As several of the Glee Club get news about their college futures Rachel gets some honest, if brutal, advice from Quinn (Dianna Agron) about her future, Rachel, Finn, and Kurt (Chris Colfer) sing "Ben" to Blaine (who is still recovering after an attack by the Worblers damages one of his eyes), while Santana (Naya Rivera) stands up for Blaine's honor by getting in a musical duel of "Smooth Criminal" with Sebastian (Grant Gustin).
Other Jackson songs used in the episode include Artie (Kevin McHale) and Mike Chang's (Harry Shum Jr.) dream sequence of "Scream," Quinn performs "Never Can Say Goodbye," Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) perform a duet of "Human Nature," Finn and Rachel perform "I Just Can't Stop Loving You," and the New Directions ends the show with a performance of "Black or White" in an attempt to teach the Worblers the real meaning of Michael's music.
